UCFV recognizes top athletes at year-end awards evening
Abbotsford – Fourth-year UCFV basketball player Shiloh Minor and third-year soccer team member Jason Beck were the top award recipients at the 2003-04 UCFV Cascades Athletics Awards Evening on Saturday, April 3 at the Ramada Inn and Conference Centre.
As the female and male UCFV Scholar Athletes of the Year, Minor and Beck were recognized for their achievements in combining academic, athletic, and leadership excellence. They were each presented with an engraved watch, a trophy, and a scholarship cheque from UCFV President Skip Bassford and Director of Athletics Mark Kosak.
Finalists for the Scholar Athlete of the Year awards were soccer player Christy Hunniford and basketball player Mark Turner.

Corinna Hiller – Most Valuable Performer
Ashlie St. Laurent – Most Improved Performer
Cascades men’s basketball:
Mike McLaverty – Most Valuable Player
Brent Sedo and Kevin Dieleman – Unsung Hero Award
Cascades men’s soccer:
Will Folstad – Most Valuable Player
Matt Hunt – Outstanding First Year Player
Cascades women’s soccer:
Kim Bull and Karlee Penill –Most Valuable Player
Cascades men’s volleyball:
Warren Balzer – Most Valuable Player
Garth Van Gaalen – Most Improved Player
Cascades women’s volleyball:
Shannon Gravelle – Most Valuable Player
Andrea Gould – Most Improved Player
In addition to the awards, a special presentation was made to long-time men’s soccer coaches Scott Fast and Ken Fernstrom who have retired after 17 years of directing the program.
