David Suzuki to speak in Fraser Valley

World renowned Dr. David Suzuki is coming to the Fraser Valley in early February. Presented by the UCFV Student Union Society, Dr.Suzuki will speak at the Clarke Theatre in Mission on Thursday, February 3. Doors will open at 6:30 pm with the speech to begin at 7:30 pm. This event will centre on how individuals can make a difference in their community and thus effect global changes. There will be many booths from local environmental groups set up in the lobby with information and volunteer opportunities. Guests are invited to come early to chat with these representatives.  Dr. Suzuki’s talk will be followed by a question and answer period as well as a book signing. 

Tickets on sale the following locations:

  • Bookstores on Mission, Chilliwack, and Abbotsford campuses of UCFV.
  • Student Life offices on Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses of UCFV.
  • Murdoch’s Book Shoppe in Mission.

General public tickets are $20 and Student tickets are $5 with valid Student ID. 

This event is a student initiative by the Student Union Society of UCFV to encourage students to become active in their community. Dr. Suzuki was invited due to his 30-year commitment to environmental issues and his award-winning work in broadcasting explaining the complexities of science in a compelling, easily understood way. He is well known to millions as the host of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's popular science television series, "The Nature of Things."   An internationally respected geneticist, David was a full Professor at the University of British Columbia from 1969 until his retirement in 2001. He is professor emeritus with UBC's Sustainable Development Research Institute. From 1969 to 1972 he was the recipient of the prestigious E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship Award for the "Outstanding Canadian Research Scientist Under the Age of 35".
