Early Childhood

We all know how important the first years of life are in building the foundation for a child's future health and well-being. We also know that things may happen that challenge or interrupt the building of that foundation. The BC Centre for Safe Schools and Communities offers resources to help families, early childhood educators, childcare providers, and others to support children through those challenges and interruptions so that the building process can continue.

The BC Centre for Safe Schools & Communities early childhood education activities focus on resources for early childhood service providers on a variety of relevant topics, including: Child Development; Children and Violence; Mental Health; Parenting; and Reference Materials

PAWS is a comprehensive early childhood learning resource to assist daycare, preschool, and kindergarten teachers in promoting social and emotional literacy, and personal safety among children ages 4 to 6 years old. This recently completed resource consists of three storybooks for children (Being Kind, Celebrating Differences, Staying Safe), a teacher's guide, and supporting materials to aid learning. These kits have been field tested across BC in Strong Start, Success by 6, and Kindergarten classrooms. Click here for report. If you are interested in obtaining this resource, please call the Centre!
