Early Childhood Education Certificate

PROGRAM COSTS

Fees and Additional Costs

Fees stated are in effect for 2007/08 and are subject to change for the next academic year. The fees for a full-time student (18 credits) are about $2,400 per semester. Books and additional supplies are about $100 per course.  You must also have your own means of transportation. Up to half of your program time will be spent working in early childhood centres in the community. UFV takes no responsibility for students’ transportation to field sites. Students are encouraged to contact the Financial Aid office at UFV for information on loans, bursaries and work-study options.
Especially for ECE students, occasionally there are grants available for students in ece.  So please check for those grants.

Approximate Cost for the ECE Certificate Program

In the ECE Certificate Program, there are 52.5 credits (16 courses in total). Two practicums are 6 credits each and the Art class is 1.5 credits.

  1. The tuition fee changes every September.  It is adviseable to check in the Calendar under "tuition fees".

  2. For tuition costs for the whole program use 52.5 credits plus extra costs listed below (#4, 5, and 6).   check the calendar to make sure that the fees are accurate.

  3. Additional costs per semester

  4. Ancillary fees (10% of tuition fees) for activities, athletics, Legacy Fund, Library & Technical Services, Student Activity Centre, and student insurance

  5. $25.00 per semester for Student Union Society Membership

  6. $4.50 per semester for Cascade student newspaper

Textbooks

Textbooks are another cost that you may want to add to your budget.   It is not part of the tuition fees, but a separate cost and it varies depending on the course.   For example, you will need only a course pack for the practicum courses because there are no textbooks for those.    The course packs are available at the bookstore for a lot less than the textbooks.

Because the costs vary from year to year, it is difficult to say how much the textbooks will cost, therefore, an estimation of $100.00 per course is used. If you would like a closer estimation, you may want to contact the bookstore and ask them for a list of the textbooks by listing the courses you will be taking for that semester.
