Submissions to the Louden Singletree
We’re always looking for new submissions. Please review the following FAQ and the submission guidelines to ensure your work is considered for submission.
Who can submit? If you are a current UFV student, member of the UFV staff or faculty, or a member of the UFV alumni association, you are invited to submit your work. Third-party or previously published works will not be considered.
What type of creative works may be submitted?
The Louden Singletree accepts original, unpublished short-fiction, creative non-fiction (up to 3,000 words) and poetry. Also accepted is visual art (colour or black & white). All written work should be in English, or accompanied by an English translation. A maximum of five poems, and/or two prose works, and/or two visual art pieces may be submitted per person.
What’s the process? All submissions must be made via email—it’s easy and it’s green—and must follow the submission guidelines. All works received are blindly reviewed by a panel of volunteers according to pre-established guidelines. All shortlisted works are then blindly reviewed and selected by the editorial board. In the event that multiple submissions by the same artist are selected for publication, a maximum of two pieces in any genre will be selected and published. All submissions will be acknowledged by email; however, the Louden Singletree does not have the time or resources to provide explanations or critiques for works that are not accepted.
If my work is accepted, when will it be published? The Louden Singletree is published annually in March. Accepted artists will be invited to read their work at the launch.
What about copyright? By submitting your work to the Louden Singletree, you are granting the Louden Singletree unrestricted right to publish your work royalty-free. This includes the initial publishing and re-publishing of your work in subsequent journals such as a best-of edition or anthology. You as the author retain your ownership of the work. Review the submission guidelines for details.
