Lunar New Year UFV student celebration
31 January 2014 - 28 January 2014
The lunar new year is upon us.
On Friday Jan 31, many cultures around the world will celebrate the new year. In Chinese culture, 2014 is the year of the Horse.
Here at the University of the Fraser Valley, two student groups are marking the occasion with a celebration open to all. For the first time, the Chinese Culture Club and the UFV India student groups are collaborating to deliver an event entitled "2014: Chinese New Year".
The student groups were awarded the Global Citizenship Grant, which aims to encourage student-led events that focus on internationalization and collaborative leadership between cultures.
The Chinese Culture Club President, Yaou Yu suggests that collaboration bewteen UFV's two largest international student populations was a no brainer. He notes, "the Chinese new year is all about people or family getting together, wherever they come from".
The event will occur on Friday Janaury 31st from 5:00-8:00pm at University House. It is a free event that will feature cultural performances (both Chinese and Indian), music, prizes and food. All are welcome to attend.
