In Australia, the Bachelor of Medicine degree is a 4 year program. For most schools there are no prerequisites, although the MCAT is required. One must score greater than 8 on all MCAT sections with a minimum of 'M' for the Writing Sample. There are two ways to apply to an Australian medical school: a student must either have completed a degree, or they must be in the last year of their degree program; however, if the student doesn't have a degree or hasn't written the MCAT, he/she can apply for the Pre-medicine program which is 5 or 6 years in length, depending on the school. Tuition for the 4-year program is approximately $150,000, excluding living costs and transportation.
