Alex Shaw - Adminstrative Director

‌ I'm Alex, the Administrative Director (fancy word for secretary/planner) of the Pre-med Student Association, and this is my second year of university. The Bachelor of Science program at UFV is preparing me for the MCAT, which I plan to write this summer. Besides studying my brains out, I spend time volunteering, riding my horse, skiing, and thoroughly enjoying weekends -- as I'm sure you do. I would love to be an obstetrician because women's health is important to me, and being able to help with childbirth is incredible. Since people are always having babies, I'll have no trouble finding patients anywhere I go. Sometime next year I will apply to all the medical schools in Canada... I figure at least one of them will like me, and once I have my dream job, it won't matter how much money I spent on the application process! I'm so excited to be on my way; I hope that the PMSA is an encouragement to you and can help you find something to be passionate about.

Alycia Bradley - Vice President

My name is Alycia Bradley, and I am the Vice-President of the Pre-med Student Association. I came to UFV to complete a Major in Biology and Minor in Kinesiology, after spending my first year studying at the University of Southampton in England! In the future, I plan to specialize in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OB/GYN) at the University of British Columbia. I believe the most important part of the PMSA, and university life, is the chance to network with others who have chosen the same path. It is unbelievable how many students are actually going through the same crazy, stressful dilemmas that you may be facing. We are here to introduce all the wonderful things medical, and be there through all the tribulations along the way… if you feel overwhelmed, chances are, we have been there too!! Always here to help

Ben Robinson - Social Events Coordinator

Hi, my name is Ben Robinson and I was too lazy to send a bio or a photo of myself to the web editor. So instead of talking about my goals and aspirations for medical school, I am going to tell you that my favourite thing to do after a long day of school is sit in front of the fireplace in my favourite chair while wearing my robe and slippers and reading Twilight.

Denise Hawley - President

‌ I am a 4th yr student working on a kinesiology major and bio minor, and I am the President and founder of the PMSA. Recently, I have become crazy busy and involved at school, work, and volunteering with several organizations in Abbotsford, but I am loving every minute of it and I just can’t seem to get enough! It’s all in the mad goose chase of getting accepted to UBC! I love being active, trying new things, and I have a passion for music and the arts - I often play piano, write music and paint or sketch when I feel the need to be creative. Overall, I always try and live my life how I want, and I consider getting accepted into medical school simply as a part of the process – not the other way around. I wrote the MCAT this summer and applied to UBC, so wish me luck!

Jake Hiebert - Community Outreach Director

Hello all. My name is Jake Hiebert, and I am a third year student here at UFV. I have decided to Major in Biology, Minor in Chemistry, and take a Pre-medicine Concentration. I wrote my MCAT this summer and just finished applying to six Canadian medical schools. After classes are done for the day I love to do things that involve using my hands whether its playing guitar, bass guitar, piano, woodworking, or practicing sutures on an orange. It is this love of using knowledge to manipulate my hands in meaningful ways that has drawn me to pursue the endlessly fascinating field of surgery. You can always feel free to ask me questions about my pre-med experiences in the hallway at school, in the PMSA meetings, or on facebook. I wish you all the best in your pre-medical studies. -Jake

James Vanderhorst - Event Coordinator

I’m in the Bachelor of Science Program, specializing in Biology. My activities outside of academics include volunteering and playing basketball. I’ve been involved with PMSA since November of 2009, doing odd jobs and setting up events. The PMSA has served me to increase my knowledge of the med school process dramatically.

Jaspreet Lidder - Volunteer Coordinator

‌ My name is Jaspreet and I am the volunteer coordinator for the PMSA. Currently, I'm in my third year at UFV, working toward a biology major. I enjoy working with children and hope to one day work as a pediatrician. I love playing basketball and am a major fan of watching anything sports, especially hockey! (Go Canucks Go!). I'm really excited to be on the PMSA committee this year, and to be involved with helping others navigate through the pre-med path!

Jordan Ross - Website Management

Hi Everyone, my name is Jordan Ross and I am a 4th year kinesiology major / biology minor student here at UFV. When I first came to UFV I was planning on become a physiotherapist, but I have since found my interests growing in the direction of public health and preventive medicine. Unfortunately, unlike in the US preventive medicine isn't a recognized specialty and so I am still figuring out what medical path to take.

Rupinder Moundhi - Financial Director

Hi! My name’s Rupinder Moundhi and I’m a 4th year psychology/biology major student at UFV. Right now I’m just finishing off my pre-requisite classes for medical school. I’ve always been interested in medicine so becoming involved in the UFV Pre-med Student Association was only natural for me. It’s a great way to get involved with student life while helping other students interested in medicine. In my spare time, I like to take my dogs out for a run (I have two Dobermans), listen to music, and watch Hollywood and Bollywood movies - yes I sit through the whole three hours! I hope that the PMSA will be as helpful for you as it has been for me. Not only is it a great way to access resources, but also an amazing way to socialize with fellow “future doctors”! I hope to see you guys at our upcoming meetings!

Sneha Thomas - Student Rep. at Large

‌ Hey everyone, I’m Sneha Thomas. I’m a fourth year Biology Major at UFV. In my spare time, besides reading textbooks and research papers, my favorite hobbies are scuba diving off the BC shores and watching Grey’s Anatomy. I’m also an avid volunteer with the BC Cancer Agency and it was my volunteering with the BCCA that led me to pursue a career in medicine. And with the development of the Pre-Med Student Association at UFV, I was thrilled to be involved with an association that was specific to my future career goals. In addition, the PMSA helps to foster prospective medical students into the right path and I wanted to be a part of an organization that helps other students with their goals. My hope for the PMSA is that it will continue to grow and aid students with the ambitions that I too hope to achieve.
