Changes in major requirements coming soon posted 9/20/11
The Department will be initiating a significant change in its degree requirements, in particular for majors in both the BSc and BA. This notice has already been posted in the on-line calendar, but students should note that Geog 352 Quantitative Methods will become Geog 252 Quantitative Methods effective the Fall 2012 term. Students who have completed Geog 352 by that semester will of course carry that upper level credit forward and it will count to their upper level credits in their degree program. Students who have not completed Geog 352 by that time should expect to have to now instead complete Geog 252. The course will stll count four credits, but thereafter at the lower level. Depending on the major or concentration, this change will increase some lower level degree requirements by four credits. Additional upper level credits in the form of an extra elective will be added to maintain the current required upper total credits in programs presently requiring Geog 352. If you have any questions, make sure you contact the department head or departmental assistant. Students should plan on taking Geog 252 as early in their degree program as possible.

Changing of the Guard posted 9/1/11
After almost five years in the chair, Dr. Ken Brealey has stepped down as Head of the Department. Ken says he very much enjoyed the experience, and thanks fellow faculty, inside and outside the department, for their assistance, and for allowing him the privilege. The new Head, effective this posting, is Dr. Michelle Rhodes. Having already extensive experience in program development, and ongoing involvement in several institutional committees, Dr. Rhodes is well placed to meet the new challenges of a growing department in a rapidly changing post-secondary environment. Welcome aboard Michelle!
