How do I sign up for a directed studies course?

Answer : Consult a faculty member that will supervise your project and prepare a contract that outlines the nature/scope/expectations of the course.  Bring the contract to the instructor of choice, who will then contact the department head to grant permission for you to register into the course.   Go to the registrar's and register/pay for the course.

Can I take more than one of the same directed studies courses e.g. more than one 480?

Answer : It depends.  Theoretically, there is no limit, provided of course you are not repeating the same version, but you are only allowed to contribute up to eight credits directed studies to your requirements for the BA and BSc Major, and the BA Extended Minor, or up to four credits towards the BA or BSc Minor.

Do I need to take Geog 101 before Geog 102?

Answer: No.

When are Study Tours or Adventures offered, and how do I apply?

Answer: Study Tours are field oriented programs that vary from year to year. Hawaii and Mexico are offered on a bi-annual rotating basis.  Other destinations are offered more intermittently.  Adventures are offered to a greater variety of local destinations on an annual basis.   For more on our field based program click here .  They are heavily advertised, but if you are interested in more general information, please contact the Department Assistant Nicole.Levinsky@ufv.ca and she can give you an application and/or provide you with a contact person.

How many regional geography courses (Geog 433) can I take and have them apply to my geography major?

Answer : Currently, there is no limit on the number of 433 you can take.  The important point is that you cannot get credit for the same version (i.e. region) more than once.

Can I do a Major with more than one declared concentration?

Answer : Theoretically, yes.  The trick, however, to figure out in advance what your credit requirements are, and whether or not the course schedule will allow you to complete them in the time you have allotted for your degree.  We make it easier for you by providing Concentration checklists and maintaining a Course Scheduling page, but it would require some careful planning on your part.  Note, also, that because of university requirements, Concentrations can only be offered in the BA.
