The department emphasizes field work, and in addition to longer study tours, most courses arrange one or more in-class field trips per term.  Some are one day and local, but often require an extra hour or two outside class, and upper-level field trips may entail a nominal fee.  A few are overnight and can range throughout southwestern B.C.
