Outstanding Achievement Award for History |
|
Awarded to the graduating History major with the highest GPA in History courses. |

| Jack Gaston Annual History Department Award |
|
Awarded by the History Department to a graduating UFV history student who has shown a commitment to History as an academic descipline. The student must have acheved a high level of academic performance in the program, which includes a GPA of at least 3.0 in her/his History courses, a consistently high level of academic achievement in historical research and writing, and an interest in furthering her/his historical studies. Award Value: $100 and book. |

| Bob Smith Annual History Department Award |
| Awarded by the History Department to a UFV history student who has made an obvious contribution to their History classes. The student must have demonstrated a curiosity about the world and a sense of historical imagination and creativity. The student must also be in the midst of their program (is not graduating) and have a GPA of at least 3.0 in their History courses. Award Value: $100 and book. |

| Constance Barber Newby Memorial History Scholarship |
|
The recipient will have earned high marks in his/her studies in the the UFV History degree program and will have demonstrated the skills and attributes associated with an outstanding history scholar. The recipient will have demonstrated excellent scholastic ability in the study of some aspect of Canadian history. Financial need will be a consideration. Available to a student entering the third or fourth year of the UFV History degree program. Award Value: $300. |

Undergraduate Research Excellence Award |
| Awarded to a student(s) for excellence in research under the supervision of a UFV faculty member. The award is available to a student who completed a research project while a fulltime UFV student (at least 3 courses) during the Summer, Fall or Winter semesters. (In the case of a group project, the award can also be presented to a group of students who meet the eligibility criteria and be divided equally among them). Applications are submitted by faculty. Award value: up to $1000. |

| Jan den Boesterd Memorial Scholarship |
|
Available to a UFV History major completing his/her third year of studies. Student must be a resident of either Chilliwack or Agassiz, who has a particular interest in either Canadian, British, or European History, and who has maintained above average grades. Award Value: $200. |

Margaret Ormsby Prize for the Best Essay in British Columbia History |
|
Essays can encompass any aspect of the History of British Columbia, no matter the discipline. To be eligible for the prize, essays must be written to meet the requirements of a credit course at UFV during the academic year (from Spring through Winter terms). Submissions must be at least 2000 words in length; they may be based on primary research and/or show mastery of the secondary literature on the topic. Contact the UFV History Department, for further details. The deadline for submissions is May 1st. Award Value: $300 |

| Writing Across the Curriculum / Writing Centre Writing Prize |
|
Ten prizes awarded to the UFV students for essays written during the academic year, in recognition of outstanding writing in various disciplines. Categories for the prizes include: Critical Writing - one at 1st/2nd year level, one at 3rd/4th year; Persuasive/Argumentative/Position papers; Research Papers - "Academic and Applied Research," or "Business, Academic and Science;" Research Reports; Special Projects; and writing in a foreign language. Contact the UFV Writing Centre for details. Award Value: $100 |

| Burnaby Historical Society Scholarship |
|
This scholarship is given annually by Dr. and Mrs. Blythe Eagles in honour of Evelyn Salisbury to a fourth year undergraduate student who is enrolled in a major or honours program that specializes in the history of British Columbia. Candidates should apply in writing, outlining their studies to date, including a current academic transcript and letters of recommendations from two professors. Eugene A. Forsey Prize in Canadian Labour and Working Class History |
|
The Canadian Committee on Labour History invites submissions for the Forsey prize competition in Canadian labour and working-class History. Two prizes are awarded annually for the best undergraduate essays written in the past academic year. Essays may be submitted directly by students, or nominated by course instructors (nominators limited to one essay per competition). | Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) |
|
If you are a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, have completed or are about to complete a bachelors degree, or are already pursuing a masters's degree in the humanities or social sciences, you may be eligible to apply for a master's scholarship. | W.K. Lamb Essay Scholarship |
|
The British Columbia Historical Federation awards two scholarships annually for essays written by students at BC colleges or universities on a topic relating to British Columbia history. One scholarship ($750) is for an essay written by a student in a first or second year course. The other scholarship ($1000) is for an essay written by a student in a third or fourth year course.
To apply for the scholarship all candidates must submit (1) a letter of application and (2) a letter of recommendation from the professor for whom the essay was written. First and second year course essays should be 1,500-3,000 words; third and fourth year, 1,500-5,000 worlds. All essays must be on a topic relating to the history of British Columbia. By entering the scholarship competition the student gives the editor of BC History the right to edit and publish the essay if it is deemed appropriate for the magazine.
