The academic advisors at UFV International can help you:

  • understand university education in Canada
  • set educational goals
  • make a program plan
  • select courses
  • find out how you can meet entrance requirements
  • understand transfer credits
  • choose upgrading options
  • prepare to transfer to another university
  • change programs

You are always welcome to see an international advisor to discuss your educational choices. However, after you are accepted into an academic program, we recommend you see a program advisor to help you build a program plan and map which courses you need to take to earn the certificate, diploma, or degree you want to earn. Check the website for a complete list of faculty advisors to know whom you should contact.

Top three tips for success at UFV

UFV international advisors are here to guide you: but you are responsible for your own success. Keep in mind the three tips below to make the most of your academic experience.

Plan ahead

Advisors can help you choose courses and explain university procedures, but ultimately you’re in charge of planning your studies. It’s up to you to:

  • Schedule and attend appointments with your advisor
  • Meet course and program requirements
  • Change your program if you have met the entrance requirements of your goal program. Program changes are not automatic.
  • Renew your study permit before it expires

Register on time

As an International student you have priority registration if you register on your registration date (found on myUFV, approximately two weeks before registration starts). If you register after that date you may find yourself on a class waitlist.

  • The tentative timetable is available first, followed by a full timetable which is usually made available online two weeks before registration.
  • Not sure how to register? Check out registration resources or attend a registration info session.
  • Your semester fees must be paid at the time of registration so plan ahead to have your fees ready.

Maintain a good Grade Point Average (GPA)

The higher your grades, the greater are your opportunities to achieve your goals. Attend classes, complete all assignments, study hard, and get help if you need it. If you need help to improve your grades, you can:
