University Foundation Certificate program application
 
Do you want to register for academic or college preparation courses?
You must qualify for the University Foundation Certificate program.

Read the following check list and see the University Foundation Certificate program information sheet for details:

 1.

Do you meet the English requirement? 
[Successful completion of ESL Writing/Grammar 64, Reading/Vocabulary 68, and Speaking 66 or TOEFL 61 (iBT) or IELTS 5.0 or CAEL 50 or CanTEST 4.0 or MELAB 70 or LPI 3 (20) or articulated equivalent]

If yes, go to step 2.  If no, stop now, and register for the appropriate ESL courses.

 2.

Is your GPA (Grade Point Average) at least 2.33 (C+ average)?  Check online: http://my.ufv.ca  If yes, go to step 3.  If no, stop now, and register for the appropriate ESL courses or make an appointment with Karen Davies to discuss options.

 3.

Have you submitted your official final high school transcript?
If yes, go to step 4.  If no, stop now, and see Seung Hee Shin, Hong Qiao, or Sandra Cavan about transcript requirements.
(Note: All students, including ESL program students, must show evidence of high school graduation and must meet program requirements and course prerequisites, including math, science, etc.)

 4.

Do you know which academic program you plan to apply to at UFV?
If yes, read about your program in the UFV Calendar, and then go to step 7. If no, go to step 5.

 5.

Do you plan to transfer to another BC college or university?
If yes, check program requirements and course transfer information and go to step 7. If no, go to step 6.

 6.

Do you want access to academic courses at UFV?
If yes, go to step 7. If no, register for the appropriate ESL courses.

 7.

Make an appointment with an academic advisor (Simon Xi or Michelle Rickaby) by contacting Darlene Labbe (Phone 604-854-4544).  Be sure to specify the purpose of your appointment by indicating one of the following:

i. University Foundation Certificate Program application (for conditional acceptance to your academic program).
ii. Transfer to another BC post-secondary institution (be specific).
iii. Access to academic courses at UFV (be specific about courses).

Important: Students who have not been accepted to an academic program, who have not met academic English language requirements, or who do not meet university foundation program course, level and GPA requirements will not have access to academic courses.  

University Foundation Program – What’s in it for you?

 1. University Foundation Certificate Program students can apply for conditional acceptance to academic programs.  This means that you could be a Business Administration Diploma program student while completing English upgrading!
 2. University Foundation Certificate Program students with conditional academic program status have access to reserved program seats in popular courses.  You won’t be on a waitlist!
 3. University Foundation Certificate Program students will meet official program language requirements with the successful completion of Level 2 core courses (WG84 with C+ or ENGL 099 with C or ENGL 081 with C+). 
 4. Students who need to upgrade math or other skills to meet program requirements can take the necessary courses during Foundation levels 1 & 2.  You can meet all program requirements – English, Math, Chemistry, etc. – at the same time!
 5. Students with a high GPA can complete up to 5 program courses before finishing their English upgrading.  That’s one complete semester!

University Foundation Certificate Program – What if you don’t qualify?
 
 1. You haven’t completed all compulsory 60-level ESL courses? Register for the appropriate course(s) in your next semester.
 2. Your GPA is low?  Contact Karen Davies to discuss options.
 3. You haven’t submitted an official high school transcript?  Contact Seung Hee Shin, Hong Qiao, or Sandra Cavan about transcript requirements.
