Postponing studies

If your arrival in Canada is delayed for any reason, you can choose to have your fees applied to the next semester without any penalty.

To qualify for postponing your studies, you must notify UFV International in writing before classes begin. This also applies to current UFV students who must postpone studies.

Dropping a course

You can withdraw online by logging in your account on the myUFV portal. Or you can drop by the UFV International office (B223) to complete a Course Withdrawal Form. Check Important Dates on the Registration Resources page – you may or may not be able to withdraw.

Dropping a course will not affect your tuition payment in the Fall and Winter semesters, and unless you qualify for a reduced course load as defined below, there is no refund. Summer semester course additions and drops are subject to fees and or penalties.

You should keep in mind that you need to take a minimum of 9 credits per 4-month semester if you wish to maintain study and work permit status.

Reduced course load & per credit tuition payment

To reduce your UFV course load and pay tuition on a per credit basis in a fall or winter semester, you can make a written request with appropriate evidence demonstrating one of the following criteria:

  • The full time course load for the semester combines UFV courses and courses at another institution
  • Less than the normal course load is required to complete the credential in the last semester of study
  • Medical reasons preventing full time study
  • Off-campus part-time studies through online course(s).
  • Co-op work semesters can include part-time study paid on a per-credit basis

Unlike the fall and winter semesters, summer semesters are considered optional and provide you with an opportunity to study part time and pay for courses on a per-credit basis (rather than as a flat fee).

Semester Dates

If you are planning to return home for holidays (Christmas break, summer vacation), please make sure your departure date does not conflict with semester dates. If you do not complete a semester, you will not be given credit for your courses.

Check Important Dates on the Registration Resources page.
