myUFV email channel not working

The email channel on the home tab in myUFV is failing with a "General channel rendering failure" error.
Email is still accessible through the email icon, located at the top right side of the myUFV pages.

 

The repair of the email channel requires a restart of the myUFV server. Given that email is still available through the email icon, a restart is scheduled for 6am Wednesday, December 15th, to minimize the number of people affected by the restart

Inbound mail to UFV is arriving, but is slow.  ITS is working to resolve the issue.  Watch this page for updates.  Mail is moving quickly as of 10:55, but it will take some time to catch up with queued mail.  All queued mail should be delivered before noon.

Hope Campus Internet Service Down

Internet service for the Hope campus is temporarily unavailable.  This outage is due to a damaged Telus fiber which provides network services to the community of Hope.  This affects all connectivity for Hope Campus including email.  Those wanting to contact the campus can call the switchboard at 604-869-9991.   

The estimated time of repair is 2:00 pm today.

 myUFV Login Problems

People are experiencing long delays in logging-in to myUFV. A server restart is required to restore service. myUFV will be unavailable between 11:30am-1:45pm today, Tuesday October 12, 2010.

Hope Campus Internet Service Down

Internet service for the Hope campus is unavailable due to problems with Telus.  This affects all connectivity for Hope Campus including email.  Those wanting to contact the campus can call the switchboard at 604-869-9991.

Student server issue

The student file server eagle is unresponsive.  As a result student and instructor logins are delayed and access to drives is temporarily unavailable.  IT staff are troubleshooting the issue and will update via this page when service is restored.  Service restored by 10:30am.  Users who are still disconnected may need to reboot and log in to reconnect mapped drives.

Description: ITS will be restarting the myUFV servers tonight, Monday August 30th, to resolve a problem with the myUFV Email Channel.

External Mail Problem

The external mail problem was resolved at approximately 4:00 pm on Sunday.  As a result of the external gateway problem, there will be a backlog of mail to be sent as well as external mail messages to arrive, however this should clear over the next few hours.

The main mail gateway which handles mail to and from external sites is down.  As a result there is no incoming or outgoing mail flowing.  Groupwsie is fully functional and will cache mail bound for external sites. IT staff are working on the problem.  Watch this site for updates.

External Mail Problem

The GroupWise email gateway experienced a problem this morning.  All internal mail continues, but external mail will experience a delay while the system is down.  This problem is expected to be resolved by approximately 10:15 am.

Xerox Printing Problem

Abbotsford users are currently having problems printing to Xerox Printers.  This problem is only affecting Xerox network printers.  HP and other printers are not affected.  ITS technical staff are currently troubleshooting the issue.  Watch this page for updates

GroupWise remote access problem

4:00 p.m. The routing problem was resolved at the service provider level and successfully tested by UFV IT Services.


Currently some home users are experiencing difficulty connecting to Groupwise using the client software.  2:30 p.m. This problem has been traced to a routing issue with our service provider PLNet.  The provider will make network changes later today to rectify the issue.

If you can not connect from home using the GroupWise client, you can still access your email using the GroupWise Web Access at http://gw.ufv.ca .   Please note that this problem affects only some home users.  GroupWise is working for all on-campus users.

Chilliwack North Campus - Xerox Copier/Printers

Vedder file server is experiencing a problem.  As a result Abbotsford network users may not be able to log in.  ITS is curently working on the problem and the server is expected to be back in operation by about 8:45 am.  A notice will be posted as soon as operation is restored.

Sophos login problems

Individual users who try to log in to Sophos to change anti-spam settings, view quarantined messages, etc are currently experiencing problems.  IT Services has identified the problem and is working to resolve it.  A notice will be posted here when the service isfully restored.

Emergency Network Switch replacement
June 22, 2010  (Completed 8:00 am Wednesday)

Computers in Physics Lab A353 and vicinity have been experiencing intermittent connectivity problems.  To correct the problem and improve reliability, IT Services will replace a network switch feeding these rooms.  The equipment will be replaced tomorrow morning (Wednesday, June 23 between 7:00 am and 8:00 am before class start.  An IT technician will test computers connected to this switch to verify all are functioning normally.

Users in Abbotsford Bldg A Level 3 will experience a temporary network interruption during the change, but will be operational by 8:00 am. Please contact the IT Services HelpDesk if you are in Bldg A, Level 3 and experience network problems after 8:00 am.

Banner unavailable UFV-wide

The Banner server experienced a momentary power problem at about 9:15am.  Banner service was restored approximately 15 minutes later.

Issues with printing on Chilliwack Campus

May 28, 2010 (Resolved 11:30 am Friday.  Users who experience printing problems can still contact the helpdesk for assistance)

A print configuration issue on the Chilliwack Admin Server was causing some issues since early today (Friday).  Some users reported that their network printers were missing. 

The configuration was corrected at 11:30 this morning and so printers reinstall automatically on reboot of the workstation computer.  If after reboot printers are still not available or not working, please contact the help desk for assistance.

Missing files on departmental drive

Update:  May 27, 2010 - 1pm- Resolved however, if users notice missing files or inconsistencies, please contact the helpdesk.

Over the long weekend, IT Services migrated data from the departmental drive to a new volume in order to resolve a storage configuration issue.  As part of that process, all files were copied to the new volume, which users are now attached to.  There have been reports that some files may have been missed during this copy process.  Another copy process is running during off-hours this evening (Wednesday, May 26), which is expected to resolve the problem.

Any users who notice that they may be missing files from their departmental drive can contact the help desk to have these manually copied.  IT Services will post an update on this page Thursday morning.

Since that time a backlog of mail is being processed resulting in a delay of mail arriving from sites outside UFV. We expect the backlog to clear up by late this afternoon (Tuesday).

Shortly after noon, it was reported to ITS that external mail was not flowing through to UFV staff and faculty recipients.  Internal mail between GroupWise users was not affected, nor was student mail.  After troubleshooting, it was discovered that an automated process had stopped working.  The problem was resolved at 12:45 p.m.  Since that time a backlog of mail is being processed resulting in a delay of mail arriving from sites outside UFV.  As of 1:50 p.m. mail is flowing with minimal delay.   Any external users who tried to send mail to a UFV user between about 12:00 noon and 12:45 p.m. may have received a message back that the email address was rejected.  Anyone re-sending those messages after 12:45 p.m. was successful.    ITS regrets any inconvenience this brief interruption may have caused.

Abbotsford Telephone Service Problem

A morning power fluctuation has damaged a component of the Abbotsford Campus telephone system.  As a result some users in buildings A, B and C are experiencing an interruption in telephone service.  A replacement part is being delivered and we expect to have service restored by late afternoon.

Slow access to internal services from off campus

Please be advised that PLNet has put an alternate network route in place last night (April 29th at 9:15 pm) to accommodate the Internet and Network traffic thru Vancouver and Victoria. PLNet Technical support continue to monitor the network at this time.

PLNet has reported that the issue is continuing although performance for UFV is improving.

UFV's internet service provider (PLNet) is currently experiencing extreme performance problems resulting in slow response times for users accessing UFV services from off campus.  Services include UFV website, myUFV, Blackboard Learning System, Library etc.

This issue is affecting all member institutions.  PLNet is aware of the issue and is working on a resolution.

Blackboard Learning System & Java Errors

Update to Java causing security error warnings with Blackboard Learning System (WebCT)

Update: Blackboard has release a patch to repair this issue.  The patch will be installed on Monday, April 26th between 6am & 7am.

April 15, 2010 - 9:30 am

Blackboard has identified an issue with the lastest updates to the Java Client which is installed on the client computer.  The updates identified are Java version 6 update 19 and above.  This issue causes security alerts to be raised once logged in and can prevent the Blackboard application from running correctly.

A workaround has been defined and can be obtained from the eHelp Desk Knowledgebase.

Longer than average wait times on myUFV logins

We are currently experiencing delays of up to 60 seconds in signing into myUFV. This affects all logins, regardless of your role - student, staff, or faculty.

ITS is actively pursuing a resolution with our software vendor, and will apply fixes as they become available. Updates will be made on a regular basis until we have a solution to the problem.

Slow access to departmental and user files

We are currently experiencing slow response on our administrative file server in Abbotsford. The result is that staff and faculty users are experiencing slow response when accessing file listings and opening and saving documents. This does not affect our student file server.

ITS is currently troubleshooting the issue and will provide updates as the problem is isolated and resolved.
