GroupWise to Outlook Migration
Welcome to IT Services FAQ for the Novell GroupWise to Microsoft Outlook migration. We have included many common questions about the migration. If you have any other questions please contact us at our "Tell us what you think" link and we will be sure to answer them.
What’s happening and why?
We’re hoping you’ve heard UFV is migrating from the Novell GroupWise email system to Microsoft Outlook. If you haven’t already, please see our 5 minute video answering "Why are we doing it and what does it mean to you".
What can you expect?
Outlook is a powerful enterprise level program that contains all of the basic functionality available in GroupWise. Hands-on workshops will be provided to show you how to accomplish the commonly used GroupWise functions in Outlook. These offerings will be scheduled by Employee Services shortly before migration in early 2011.
These workshops will cover the basics of Outlook email, calendar, rules and folder management, secure designated folder and calendar sharing, address book and contact management as well as give you the opportunity to ask questions about specific concerns.
Will everything I have set up and stored in GroupWise be available in Outlook?
While almost everything in your GroupWise account will transfer to your new Outlook account there are a few items that you will have to recreate. The following list will let you know what will be done for you, and what you will need to do. If there are any areas you are concerned about not addressed below or you’d like more information, please let us know.
What will be done . . .
All of your GroupWise email will transfer over. This includes messages in your
· Sent Items,
· All archived email,
· Cabinet folders.
Also transferred over will be your
· Calendars and appointments, including multiple calendars,
· "Contacts" information,
· Distribution lists,
· Custom colour categories and colour assignments.
What you will need to do . . .
Recreate your rules. Any rules you have created in GrouWise, such as auto reply,
delete,forward or Out of Office will have to be recreated in Outlook
Recreate any shares and access. Any folder, calendar or address book shares,
or proxy accesses you have established or have access to in GroupWise, will
also have to be recreated in Outlook.
How can you prepare?
You can help us with the migration right now by permanently deleting any unrequired email from the GroupWise System. Don’t forget to clean up your archive too!
We have approximately 750 GB of email data and every single email you can permanently delete from the system will reduce the migration time!
Think about how you use GroupWise. If there are some critical tasks you rely on and if you are concerned about how you will use Outlook for these, please contact us.
