Copyright Guide

As of November 9, 2012, UFV is no longer operating under an Access Copyright license, which means that we are now operating solely under the provisions of the Copyright Modernization Act (Bill C-11) and the Fair Dealing provisions within Canadian copyright law.

The copyright material previously contained on this web page is currently under revision. We have prepared some basic copyright information (based on legal opinions from both the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges) to guide you as we work on revising our copyright materials. Please feel free to contact your liaison librarian with questions about copyright.

Copyright law applies to the making of a copy of print, media or electronic materials in any format, including coursepacks, scanning, photocopying, and reformatting of audiovisual materials, among other things. Creating a hyperlink to resources currently available online (including linking to articles and other items in the library's licensed databases) is generally not considered to be making a copy.
