Borrowing Materials:  Faculty and Staff

Library Cards

All full-time, part-time or sessional employees (faculty and staff) of UFV are entitled to a free campus card, which acts as a combination employee card, library card, computer printing, and photocopier card. You will also be issued a library PIN number, used to place holds, and review your library account.

  • Cards are issued in the library
  • Bring photo ID and proof of employment (contract, letter, introduction)
  • No expiry date for employees with regular, on-going contracts
  • Sessional faculty/staff cards expire at the end of the semester
  • You are responsible for all items signed out on your card

My Library Account

Use My Library Account to view your checkouts, due dates, fines, status of hold requests and renew your items. To log into My Library Account, use your employee number and library PIN number.  If you do not have your Library PIN or you have forgotten it, you can access it by going to My Library Account, clicking on "Forgot Your PIN" and entering your UFV ID number. Your PIN will be emailed to your UFV email account. Or, you can contact the library for assistance.

Renewals

Items are self-renewed online. To renew items, connect to My Library Account.

Always read the renewal screen carefully and note the new due dates.  The format for due dates is day/month/year (Due: 13/7/2008). Note that renewals are subject to recall: if your item is recalled by another user, you will have to bring it back sooner than the original renewal date displayed.

If renewal limits have been reached, or the item is on hold for another patron, you will see a message "Item may not be renewed."  In the case of renewal limits being reached, you may return the item to the library and renew in person at the circulation desk.

Course Reserves and Interlibrary Loans may not be renewed.

Returning Items

Items may be returned in the book return slot at the circulation desk (during opening hours), or in the external bookdrop located outside the entrance of the building (after hours.)  Note: the Mission bookdrop is located in the hallway outside the library. You may return items to any UFV campus library. Please do not send any returns through intercampus mail.

Holds and Transfers

If an item is signed out, "just received", or on another campus, you may place a hold on it.
Intercampus transfers are delivered the next weekday, with Friday requests arriving on Monday.

For more details on placing holds, notification, and cancellation of holds, see Procedures for Holds.

Overdue Items

Faculty and staff are notified of overdue items through a series of e-mails, beginning with 1 day prior to the due date. Further notices are sent at 30 days, 60 days, 90 days and 120 days.  If an item is not returned in 120 days, the borrower will be invoiced for the replacement cost.

Recalls

When an overdue item has a hold placed on it, the library will contact the borrower via UFV email and recall the item.  The item must be returned within the specified period (varies by item), after which a recall fine of $1.00 per day will accrue.

Lost and Damaged Items

The borrower will be invoiced for the replacement cost of any lost or damaged items which need to be withdrawn from the collection.

Paying Fines

You may pay your fines in person at the circulation desk of any UFV campus library.  (When the Mission campus library is closed, make your payment in Abbotsford or Chilliwack.)  The library accepts cash, cheque, VISA or Mastercard. The Abbotsford and Chilliwack libraries accept debit cards.

Borrowing From Other Libraries

UFV faculty and staff may come to the library to pick up a COPPUL card, which provides borrowing privileges for most post-secondary libraries in Canada.

We will also obtain books, journal articles, videos/DVDs, and more from other libraries via interlibrary loan (ILL).
