- How to Use the NetLibrary Electronic Book Collection-
Find an eBook | Read an eBook| Print pages| Create a personal account | Off Campus Access to NetLibrary
NetLibrary provides access to over 5000 digitally reproduced books. Some of these books are publicly available while others require a subscription.
If you are currently a UCFV student, staff or faculty, you have access to both the public and subscription based collections. These books are available on and off campus.
There are two ways to search for NetLibrary books: by using the UCFV Library catalogue and by using the NetLibrary search option. The UCFV library catalogue includes all the books that we have subscribed to. Once you have entered the NetLibrary site (via your login) you can use their search option to explore a larger range of books.
Find an eBook
-
Connect to the UCFV library catalogue.
-
Using "words or phrase," enter "netlibrary." This will give a list of all the NetLibrary titles that UCFV has subscribed to.
-
To limit your search, you can select a specific subject in the list under "You Found Titles in Categories" or you can add more keywords like "careers" and "netlibrary."

Read an eBook
- Click on "URL" under "Full details," found to the left of the book title. This will open up the book at NetLibrary. If your catalogue search opens up the "Full Details" display of the book automatically, then click on the "Internet Access" link.
- The link will take you to NetLibrary and you will see the specific title that you have looked for.
- Click on "View this eBook."
- To the left, the table of contents are listed. You can navigate through the book by clicking on the chapter that interests you.
- You can also use the search option "Search this eContent" at the bottom left of the screen. This search looks for keywords and will give you all the pages in which the word is used.
- When you are looking at the book, no one else can. It is exactly like taking a print copy of the book off the shelf and using it. Only when you close the item will the book become available for others to use.
- After 15 mintues of inactivity, the session will time out. You may have to wait for the book to reset before it becomes available again.
- If the book is in use you will get this message. Wait 15 minutes and try to access the book again.

Print pages
-
If the "Acrobat tools" are present, click on the printer icon and the page will print. You may have to click on the icon "Show Acrobat Tools," in order to reveal the printer icon.
-
If the Acrobat toolbar is not present, print using the "Print Preview" function in your browser. Select the "Only the Selected Frame" option before you print the page. This will avoid printing all the frames that surround the book page.
-
Remember that you can only print one chapter or up to 10% of a book. Printing all of an eBook violates copyright laws. If excessive printing is detected, the activity is logged and you are sent a copyright warning message.
Create a personal account
- At the top right hand corner, find "Create a Free Account."
- Fill in the necessary details and create an account. It is recommended that you use your student number as username and "my ucfv" password as password.
- Please ensure that your details have been accepted. You will see a message near the top of the screen that says "Your account has been successfully created."
- If you forget your login details the library staff are unable to help you. You will have to create a new account.
- The benefits of an account are
- you can keep notes about certain books,
- you can maintain a search list and titles list
- you can change the default language from English.
- The option to check out an item is no longer available.
Off Campus Access to NetLibrary
Our licensing agreement with NetLibrary requires that users authenticate themselves by using their student/employee ID and password.
- From the UCFV Library catalogue, click on the URL for the book.
- If you are off campus, you will be taken to the Proxy Login page.
- Enter your student ID number or faculty/employee ID number.
