UFV Library Ebook Survey Results
Introduction
A search in the UFV Library catalogue for almost any subject now brings up titles identified as "E-Book on the Internet". These are electronic versions of complete books or documents from a number of different sources, including Ebscohost, ebrary, Myilibrary, Oxford Reference, Gale Virtual Reference, Sage, Canadian Electronic Library Publishers Collection, and Early Canadiana Online.
To view these titles, just click on the URL link in the catalogue record. From on campus, the titles will open on your computer screen. From off campus, most titles require authentication. (Off campus access details) Titles from ECO are free for anyone to use.

Oxford Reference Online
Looking for authoritative facts and figures? Need background information on a person, place or topic?
Oxford Reference Online Premium includes over 170 reference titles, updated regularly with an expanding range of key titles in the acclaimed Oxford Companions and Oxford Dictionaries series plus the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. The database can be searched as a whole or limited to one or more subjects, or to one or more individual books.
Gale Virtual Reference Library
24/7 access to a growing collection of electronic subject specialized encyclopedias from prestigious academic publishers including Greenwood, Elsevier, MacMillan and Gale.
Sage Reference Online
This reference database includes hundreds of Sage handbooks and encyclopedias, providing detailed, authorative background information in the social sciences.
Springerlink
SpringerLink includes over 1,250 scholarly journals and over 22,000 ebooks in the following fields: behavioral science, biomedical and life sciences, business and economics, chemistry and materials science, computer science, earth and environmental science, engineering, humanities, social sciences and law, mathematics, medicine, and physics and astronomy.
Springerlink books are in formatted as PDF chapters and may be downloaded.
Canadian Electronic Library Publishers Collection
Collection of 8131 e-book titles from 47 Canadian publishers, including UBC Press, McGill-Queens University Press, and University of Toronto Press. All titles are included in the UFV library catalogue. The content platform is provided by ebrary.
Canadian Electronic Library titles now offer a PDF
download option of complete titles or individual chapters.
Early Canadiana Online Information
"Early Canadiana Online (ECO) is a digital library providing access to 2,384,542 pages of Canada's printed heritage. It features works published from the time of the first European settlers up to the early 20th Century." (from ECO website)
In addition to viewing the historical documents included in the UFV library catalogue, users may search the ECO database for specific subjects or keywords.
The UFV library does not subscribe to the Early Official Publications component of ECO.
