Distance Education

UFV’s Library and Information Technology has evolved to deliver a fully online program that can be completed on a part-time basis. Although this program can be completed in four years, some students may be able to manage their workload to complete the program sooner. For example, some students may have existing academic experience, fulfilling their breadth requirements.  In some terms, more online courses may be available.

We encourage students to take, at least, one course on campus for the experience of meeting faculty, staff and fellow students.  However, there are other opportunities to physically connect with the program including our August orientation and an overnight trip to Victoria, BC as part of LIBT 161: Site Visits. There may be opportunities to billet with former grads of the program as a way of encouraging visits from students at a distance. In addition, UFV offers accommodations through campus residences.

Our Commitment to Distance Students

The program is continuing to work hard at producing a greater connection between online and face-to-face students. The student association, LIBTSA, is working with the LIBIT department to find new and creative ways to link distance students with other program students. Also, the program continues to develop tools on its website to keep current students (and alumni) informed about the profession and the program.
