Practicum Placements

Successful practicum completion is a requirement component of UFV's Library Techncician Diploma. It is important you are aware of the condititions in which students complete practicums

Practicums are treated as a Credit/No credit option worth 1.5 credits. Practicum placements must be approved by Faculty and deemed opportunities that provide a valuable learning experience for the student. Faculty must ensure that there is sufficient supervision by
qualified personnel who can provide students with an opportunity to learn about the organization.

Students may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review and, possibly a health review, depending on the placement. There are many unique situations that students may have an oppotunity to participate in and it is for this reason, that students should research and reflect upon possible placement opportunities well in advance of registering for the course.

For placements outside of Britisich Columbia, there may be specific logistical considerations including Workman's Compensation coverage that may or may not be available. Students who are not residents of British Columbia are not covered under UFV's Workmans Compensation
Agreement. If students wish to complete their practicum requirement outside of BC, they may be responsible for securing their own coverage for compensation. If this is not possible, alternative arrangements may be made but students MUST discuss these options with the department before they register for the practicum course.
