Betty-Joan Traverse holds a B.A. in French (UBC) a Licence ès Lettres (Université de Paris III), and an M.A. (Université de Montréal). She has worked at the French Consulate General in Vancouver, taught all of the lower-level and some upper-level French language courses at SFU, and has worked as a full-time French Instructor at UFV since 2000. She has been a member of Translation Societies in both B.C. and Quebec. She is a member of the Minister of Education’s Ad-Hoc Committee on French as a Second Language, was the Chair from 2004-2008 of the Standard Committee on Language Articulation for B.C. post-secondary institutions, and presented a workshop on teaching French film at the World Conference of French Professors held in Quebec City in 2008. She has a keen interest in inter-cultural didactics, teaching language and culture through the media, and innovations in language pedagogy. She is on the Board of Directors of the Abbotsford Community Services and the 2008 Abbotsford Multicultural Festival. She and her husband live in Abbotsford and have three children, who are all almost launched.
