UFV is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for its staff and students to work and learn in. The Occupational Health & Safety Office (OHSO) strives to ensure that UFV operates in compliance with WorkSafe BC chemical safety standards. Currently UFV and the OHSO employ the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). WHMIS is Canada's national hazard communication standard. The key elements of the system are cautionary labeling of containers of WHMIS "controlled products", the provision of material safety data sheets (MSDSs) and worker education and training programs. UFV and its OSHO strongly encourage all faculty, staff, and students that use UFV laboratories participate in WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Information System) training.
