Welcome!
The University of the Fraser Valley is proud to offer accommodation
in Abbotsford during your time at UFV.
The heart of residence is in the community
A residence community encourages social and academic growth and provides a rich student centred environment for outof class learning and personal development. Students spend 70% of their time out of class; therefore, it is logical to connect classroom learning to the student and their life in the residence.
It is believed that the single most important environmental influence on student development is the peer group, and research has found that peer group interaction/involvement in the university experience is a key factor for retention and completion of studies. Students living in residence are more likely to participate in more activities and have greater contact with other students, and a more satisfactory social life.
A rich and satisfying residence community allows learning to take place informally, in casual contacts with faculty, staff, and peers. Through real life opportunities, residence living provides opportunities to form and maintain supportive relationships, improve life skills, create life long learners, develop self esteem, emotional maturity, and self responsibility.
Providing a safe environment and enriched opportunities while maintaining a strong focus on the developing needs of the student creates an academic culture where students can value and achieve success. Students will make educational and career decisions, develop leadership qualities, develop and clarify values and learn to live cooperatively with others. Residence is the optimal environment to engage more fully in the university experience, and reflect on their beliefs and understanding of the world.
Students living in residence this September will have
- Frequent and wider ranging contact with faculty, staff, and peers
- Learning community opportunities
- Supports for personal adjustment
- Supports for intellectual growth
- Interactive opportunities to become fully engaged in their own learning and development.
- An interpersonal environment that reflects personal responsibility, citizenship, concern for others, leadership, and an overall atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
