Student Safety Patrol
|
The student safety patrol program augments the safety and security services at the Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses. By providing an additional security presence, the program is intended to increase both the real, and the perceived sense of personal safety on campus. The program was first introduced in the winter of 1994 following recommendations of an adhoc personal safety committee.
Student safety patrollers are dedicated students each having a genuine interest in promoting a safe learning environment at UFV. Like other security personnel on campus, patrollers act as "ambassadors" for UFV and understand that they are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
All participants complete a Criminal Records Search as part of the selection process.

Patrollers can be seen on campus wearing blue reflective vests. They carry flashlights and a 2-way radio to maintain frequent voice communication with the on-duty security officers.

|
Primary responsibilities of patrollers are: » to complement the current security force » to conduct regular patrols of parking lots to deter theft and vandalism » to provide SafeWalk escorts to vehicles and public transportation » to assist with emergency response where necessary » to act as an additional source of information, goodwill, and public relations

Patrollers are on duty from 6:30pm to 10:30pm Monday to Friday during each semester. They spend the majority of their time in the campus parking lots, and some of their time patrolling hallways, stairwells, and washrooms. You may stop a patrol team at any time to request assistance, ask for information, or ask for a SafeWalk.
In addition, you may contact Security and then wait at a SafeWalk station for an escort. To request a SafeWalk, call the security cell phone at:
NON-EMERGENCY: LOCAL 7654 or 1-855-239-7654
