The Internationalization Committee advises UCC and the Director of International Education on policies and other matters related to internationalization. These include but are not limited to the following roles.
The Internationalization Committee:
1) Advises UCC & IE on the policies and priorities of internationalization at UCFV and assists UCFV in developing an internationalization strategy consistent with the institutional strategic plan
2) Assists UCC and IE in integrating internationalization into the fabric of the institution
3) Advises UCC & IE on matters of concern to, and liaison with, the instructional areas of the University College
4) Advises UCC & IE on matters of concern to, and liaison with, the various cultural/linguistic communities of the Fraser Valley
5) Assists UCC & IE in the review of ongoing international programs, projects and partnerships
6) Serves as a forum for new ideas on internationalization and acts as a co-ordinating body and clearinghouse for research and information on best practices in internationalization
7) Assists UCC & IE in ensuring that all UCFV international activity reflects the values of equity, fairness, respect, sustainability, cultural empathy and global citizenship
Membership:
Elections shall be conducted by the UCC secretary. All elected and appointed members shall be voting members. Ex officio members shall be non-voting.
Membership of the Internationalization committee will include:
1) Representatives from:
a) Arts & Applied Arts (2 members from different departments)
b) Community Access, Business & Information Technology (2 members from different departments)
c) Science, Health & Human Services (2 members from different departments)
d) Trades and Technology (1 member)
These shall be two year memberships.
1) One representative each from:
a) UCC
b) Research and Industry Liaison
c) Marketing
d) International and Development Studies
e) MOLA
f) ESL
g) Student Services
h) Registrar’s Office
i) Student Union
j) Members approved by the IC committee (individuals invited to join the committee because they have a project underway)
These shall be one year memberships.
2) Director of International Education (ex officio, non-voting)
3) up to two members appointed by the Director of International Education for one year memberships
4) one instructional Dean (ex officio, non-voting)
Members of IC are responsible for:
1) consulting with and representing constituents
2) ensuring a continuity of representation by maintaining and passing on the IC file to successors
Meetings are open. Any member of the University College Community may ask to have an item added to the agenda and may attend to speak to it.
Chair
The chair is elected from among committee members for a term of 2 years. It is recommended that the chair receive one course release (or equivalent, if not a faculty member) for the first year, to be reviewed by UCC at the end of that period. The chair reports to UCC in a timely manner and at least annually through a written report.
Meetings
The Internationalization Committee will meet monthly. A quorum consists of 50% of the members plus one
