Wear a Sweater

For the last 2 years, UFV's GreenTeam has spearheaded a campaign to keep thermostats low despite cool weather outside. Last year, we had an exceptionally warm winter, so ice cream was handed out to all those who had bundled up. The thermostat was also lowered by two degrees.

GreenTeam's own sweater day is part of a larger event put on by the World Wildlife Fund Canada. Since 2010, WWF Canada has been inspiring people to put on a sweater as a way to reduce heat within businesses and households and therefore reducing the amount of emissions that get put into the atmosphere. If every thermostat in Canada was decreased by 2°C, greenhouse gas emissions would be down by 4 megatons-- the equivalent of shutting down a 600 mega-watt coal powered station.

We look forward to continuing the annual campaign in early 2016!
