Substance Abuse Counselling Diploma
ADMISSION INFORMATION |

Entrance Requirements: |

You must have a Composition Placement Test score of 48 or better (or C+ or better in English 081, or C or better in ENGL 101, 105, or CMNS 155 or equivalent course in writing skills).

Personal suitability of applicants will be assessed using a point rating system. Points are awarded for past academic education, relevant work or volunteer experience (social services or other), demonstrated writing ability, reference letters, personal statement, and the group interview. Admission will be granted on a first-come, first-qualified, first-served basis to those scoring above the required threshold and who have completed a successful interview.

A group interview, which generally consists of four to six students and two Social Service Department members. Applicants should be prepared to discuss their career goals and knowledge of the field, and are expected to demonstrate appropriate interpersonal and life skills. |

How to Apply |
|
|
Obtain a copy of the UFVCalendar and the Social Services application forms. Read the Social Services section of the Calendar carefully. Fill out the application forms and mailor deliver them in-person (during office hours) along with the required documents and a $45 application fee, to the Admissions and Records office at any UFV campus or centre. |

Students who want to start classes in September should mail their applications to UFV starting October 1. Most admissions decisions will be made in May. Applications received after March 15 will be considered only if space is available. |

General Interest |
|
|
If you wish to take some of the courses without enrolling in the program, or prior to formal application, you may apply as a General Studies student. You may register for any courses for which you meet the prerequisites. Program students are given priority forcourses. |

|
Fees and Additional Costs |
|
|
See the UFV calendar for tuition fees, keeping in mind that fees indicated are for theprevious year, and new fees are usually set each May. Books and supplies are extra. |

Some employers are willing to sponsor their employees. Check with your employer beforeregistering. |
