Kristy Fornwald, currently a 4th year BSW student, was a recipeint of the Abbotsford News Annual Writing Prize 2008-2009 for her paper "Canadian Refugee Policy". This paper was written as part of Dr. Adrienne Chan's SOWK 320 course in Fall 2008.
Amanjit Poonian received the Undergraduate Research Excellence Award for the School of Social Work and Human Services for 2009. The Awards Ceremony was held on June 8, 2009 at the Ramada Inn, for all UFV award recipients and recipients of national research awards.
Dr. Lisa Moy successfully defended her doctoral dissertation, Disrupting 'bully' talk: Progressive practices and transformative spaces for anti-violence work in schools, at the University of British Columbia's School of Educational Studies in November 2008. Dr. Adrienne Chan's latest book, The Exchange University: Corporatization of Academic Culture, was published by UBC Press in November 2008. Co-edited with Dr. Donald Fisher of UBC's Department of Educational Studies, The Exchange University critically examines the commercialization of today's academy.
Dr. Adrienne Chan was presented with the 2008 Teaching Excellence Award at the University of the Fraser Valley's convocation ceremonies held on June 13, 2008. Congratulations, Adrienne. Lucki Kang became the BSW Field Education Coordinator for the School on May 1, 2008, on a term appointment until July 31, 2009.
