When and where is the program offered?

TEP is offered on the Chilliwack campus for elementary teachers only (K-grade 7). Applications open on October 1st and close January 31st. The next intake for elementary school education will be July 2011. It is anticipated that starting in July 2012 additional spaces will become available for secondary school teacher applicants.

What is the length of the program?

The UFV TEP is 12 months in length, from July 2011 to June 2012.

What are the admission requirements?

Applicants need to have a four year Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 120 credits. There are eight specific elementary breadth courses which are required and 18 upper-level credits in teachable subject areas. Please note that all of the elementary breadth courses (except EDUC 300) need to be completed one full semester prior to beginning TEP.  

Where do classes take place?

Students attend classes in Chilliwack and do their practica in the Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack or Fraser Cascade school districts. Students are expected to travel to practicum sites and inservice sessions.

What is the capacity of the class?

35 students will be admitted into TEP to form our fourth cohort of preservice teachers, starting in July 2011. Further planning is underway to have a secondary school cohort of 32 students ready for July 2012.

Do students have a choice in practicum sites?

Faculty select practicum sites within the Chilliwack, Mission, Abbotsford, and Fraser Cascade school districts. Our coordinator takes into consideration where students reside.

How much does the program cost?

TEP consists of 55 credits. Tuition fees and ancilliary costs are estimated at approximately $8.900 for all four semesters. There are additional student union fees. Books and additional supplies cost approximately $150 per course. Students must have reliable modes of transportation for travel to practica sites.

When is the deadline to apply?

The deadline to apply for TEP, starting in July 2011, will be January 31st, 2011. Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to see the Education Advisor in TEP well ahead of their application and come to the TEP application seminar offered in November.

Application forms are available online. They are also available through Student Services and from the TEP office in Chilliwack. Please read the application guidelines or come to one of the TEP seminars.
