Summer Semester Acting Courses Offered &

Applications to the Theatre Program Still Being Accepted

The theatre department will offer two first year acting courses during the upcoming summer semester.THEA 111 ACTING 1: Prerequisite(s): None. An introduction to the technique and craft of acting, focusing on the development of the actor’s internal and external resources to realize character as action. Runs: May 4 to August 1 2009, from 5.30 p.m. to 8.20 p.m., in room 162, building D, on the Chilliwack campus.

THEA 112 ACTING 11: Prerequisite(s): THEA 111. Continues the development of the actor’s internal and external resources, introducing students to scene study and the realization of character through interactions with others. Runs: May 4 to August 1 2009, from 1 p.m. to 3.50 p.m., in room 162, building D, on the Chilliwack campus.

Instructor for both courses will be Darren Blakeborough

Applications are still being accepted to the UFV theatre program for the upcoming Fall semester beginning September 2009

    THEATRE DEPARTMENT AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

    2011

    ASHLAND EXTERNAL STUDY

    AMOUNT: $1,350 – 1,500 (varies)

    AVAILABLE TO: A theatre student who intends to pursue future theatre studies and who enrols in the external study program at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon.

    TO APPLY: Contact Ian Fenwick, Theatre Department.

    Awarded to Bryan Cutler and Tanya Schwaerzle

    CHILLIWACK PLAYERS GUILD SCHOLARSHIP

    AMOUNT: $500 (one available)

    AVAILABLE TO: Students enrolled in the UFV Theatre program who have made an outstanding contribution to the department productions and student life and who will be continuing their theatre studies at UFV.

    LETTER OF APPLICATION TO: UFV Theatre department head

    DEADLINE: May 8, 2009

    STIPULATIONS: Applicant must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.

    MYRTLE HAWES MEMORIAL AWARD

    AMOUNT: Book

    AVAILABLE TO: A theatre student who has made an outstanding contribution to the life of the department.

    SELECTION PROCEDURE: Student will be recommended by the Theatre Department.

    LAVERNE ADAMS FIRST NATIONS SCHOLARSHIP

    AMOUNT: $500 (one available)

    AVAILABLE TO: A First Nations student who has excelled in the UFV Theatre program.

    LETTER OF APPLICATION TO: UFV Theatre department head

    DEADLINE: May 8, 2009.

    STIPULATIONS: Applicants must be of First Nations ancestor

    NORMA KENNEY MEMORIAL TUITION SCHOLARSHIP

    AMOUNT: Tuition award.

    AVAILABLE TO: A UFV student who has completed the first two years and who is continuing as a full-time student in theatre.

    LETTER OF APPLICATION TO: UFV Theatre Department Head; please include copy of most recent transcript.

    DEADLINE: May 8, 2009.

    STIPULATIONS: Student must have maintained a high academic standing of 3.5 GPA and have made an outstanding contribution to the Theatre Department. Tuition scholarship is only applicable to the next fall and winter semester.


    SKYE MACDONALD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN THEATRE

    AMOUNT: $500 (one available)

    AVAILABLE TO: A student who has completed the first year of a UFV Theatre program and is proceeding full-time into second year.

    LETTER OF APPLICATION TO: UFV Theatre Department Head

    DEADLINE: May 8, 2009.

    THEATRE DEPARTMENT SPECIAL STUDENT AWARDS

    AMOUNT: Book

    AVAILABLE TO: This award is given in recognition of outstanding achievement by a student in the Theatre Department.

    SELECTION PROCEDURE: The student will be recommended by the Theatre Department.

    JODY CAMERON PRODUCTION AWARD

    This award was established by the theatre department to honour the tremendous contribution made by long time production manager Jody Cameron to the development of the department

    AMOUNT: Book

    AVAILABLE TO: This award recognizes outstanding contribution to the season of theatre production teams and to the life of the department.

    Selection Procedure: The student is recommended by the Theatre department.

    THEATRE STUDENTS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

    AMOUNT: $500

    AVAILABLE TO: A theatre student who excels in their studies and who makes an outstanding contribution to the theatre student association.

    Robert (Bob) FORSYTHE Memorial SCHOLARSHIP

    Established by the friends of Bob Forsythe to remember an actor and director who touched the lives and lifted the spirits of all who had the privilege of learning from him or watching him perform.

    Amount: $500

    Available to: Intended to be given to theatre students who show spirit, commitment and potential and who are continuing into upper levels of the program

    Rotary Club of Chilliwack Theatre Scholarship

    Amount: $1,500

    Available to: A student who has excelled in the first two years of the program and who will be continuing their theatre studies at UFV.

    Rod Cooper Theatre Award

    AmouNT: $2,500

    Available to: A student graduating from the UFV Theatre department who shows promise of a continued career in Theatre. The student must be continuing in graduate studies or be accepted to a program of professional studies in Theatre (including teaching). The student must have completed requirement for graduation in the fall or winter semester prior to the award deadline.

    Apply to: Theatre Department Head.

    Deadline: May 8, 2009 Stipulations:

    Recipient must be a graduating student form the UFV Theatre Department

    Recipient must be a Canadian Citizen or a landed immigrant

    Recipient has been accepted into a graduate studies or professional studies program in Theatre

    A GPA of 3>0 or higher

    Applicaltion must contain the following:

    Two letters of reference indicating applicant’s interest in Theatre

    Resume indicating experience in Theatre
