THEATRE DEPARTMENT
MARK SUTHERLAND

Mark has a great deal of experience as a free lance professional theatre technician.

Mark is no stranger to the UFV program. He covered the position he now holds while the previous technician was away. The Shows produced that year were Mother Courage, Anne of Green Gables and Loves Labour’s Lost. Originating from Vancouver Island, Mark has accumulated over twenty years of professional theatre experience, which has taken him from Victoria to St John’s Newfoundland. As Production Manager 1985-1989, Mark helped establish the Vancouver Fringe Festival as one the Western Canada’s major theatrical events. After meeting his life partner Bronwen and starting a family on the Sunshine Coast, he was hired as Technical Director of the Raven’s Cry Theatre for the Sechelt Nation. Moving a little further North in search of new adventure, Mark was hired as Technical Director of the Prince Rupert Performing Arts Centre. Nine years, countless productions and webbed feet later, the Sutherland‘s have returned to Lower Mainland to take up residence in the Fraser Valley. Since 2002, Mark has offered Technical Support to the Clarke Foundation Theatre and was recently appointed as the Special Events Coordinator for Mission’s Fraser River Heritage Park. He is excited to be back at the UFV Theatre Department and looks forward to a great season of shows.
