 GET ANIMATED!
UFV Visual Arts Department is proud to partner with the National Film Board of Canada for the 2012 Get Animated! showing of five fantastic short animated films, October 30, 2012 at 4:30pm in room B101 (the Lecture Theatre of UFV).
In honour of International Animation Day, UFV will be serving up some of Canada's finest animation with offerings from up-and coming filmakers as well as some of the world's most accomplished directors - all absolutely free!
Love and loss, and the mysteries of what could have been, take centre stage in this program of animated shorts. Be swept up in the fantasy of an in-flight romance, discover the secret story of a lost Polish town, meet a troubled young vampire and a man who is about to lose his head --and see hjow an office prank leads to one man's full-blown transformation.
 CELEBRATE DIVERSITY
UFV Visual Arts Department Faculty member Shelley Stefan has directed a 230 foot long public mural on the theme of Diversity and Inclusion, set to be unveiled at Abbotsford Community Services, 2420 Montrose Ave., on Tuesday, May 29, at 11:30pm.
Everyone is invited to the unveiling! There will be a complimentary BBQ, serving both meat and vegetarian, and an opportunity to view the work and meet the team.

The Jury of the 2011/2012 pARTicipate Poster Competition organized by the Visual Arts Department has awarded five students for their entries. Overall we received twenty-three poster projects on this year's theme “Uncommon Goodness: People who see goodness, do good.” Many thanks to all who participated.

Davida Kidd — Who Needs Art When You Have a View Like This

Davida Kidd’s latest body of work features an array of images that engage in biting double entendres.
It was inspired by a billboard Kidd read when driving across the Cambie Street Bridge that exclaimed “Who Needs Art When You Have a View Like This!” In keeping with Kidd’s practice of constructing sets and staging subjects, she creates large-scale photographic images that use digital collage to combine multiple objects, images, and views.
Davida Kidd’s practice addresses themes of the blurred line between illusion and reality. She cultivates the ambiguous moments at which subjects become invented by the viewer.
Born in Edmonton, Davida Kidd received her BFA and MVA in Print Media from the University of Alberta, where she specialized in Print Media, Photography, Digital Imaging and Installation. Kidd is currently an instructor in the UFV Visual Arts department. She was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix at the 2003 International Print Triennial in Poland and recently received a major project grant from the Canada Council of the Arts.
CONFERENCES The Universities Art Association of Canada provides a national voice for its membership, composed of university and college faculty, independent scholars and other art professionals in the fields of art, art history and visual culture. The UAAC Conference is organized annually.
 The College Art Association (located in New York) supports all practitioners and interpreters of visual art and culture, including artists and scholars, who join together to cultivate the ongoing understanding of art as a fundamental form of human expression.
 The Association of Art Historians (located in the UK) supports and promotes the study of art history. AAH is the national organisation for professional and independent art and design historians, researchers and students involved in education, museums and galleries and freelance work. The AAH stages an international conference each year in the United Kingdom.
