The Visual Arts Gallery —
The University of the Fraser Valley is committed to a dynamic exhibition program intended to foster in the community a milieu of intellectual and artistic freedom, curiosity, cultural sensitivity/diversity, and creativity. The Gallery has been serving the Fraser Valley community since 1985 through exhibits featuring works and regional, national and international artists.
Guided by its definition of artistic freedom by the March 2010 policy statement on Academic Freedom and Artistic Expression by the Canadian A ssociation of University Teachers, works are considered for exhibition regardless of medium, period or origin and are selected to provide a varied and stimulating program for the university and its communities. Preference is given to innovative and challenging exhibitions that address contemporary issues, and exhibitions related to programs and pedagogical activities of the Visual Arts Department receive priority. As a valuable teaching resource, The Visual Arts Gallery supports and encourages student exhibitions, increasing student awareness of the dialogue that accompanies the public presentation of their works.
All exhibitions in The Visual Arts Gallery and on Visual Arts dedicated locations must be approved by the Gallery Advisory Committee.
