AVAILABLE TO WELDING LEVEL C,B,A STUDENTS:

(a) LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR’S MEDAL

CRITERIA: The Lieutenant Governor’s Medal is awarded to a graduate of a substantial Vocational or Career Program of less than two years duration. As directed by the Offices of the Governor General and the Lieutenant Governor, students must have both a high academic standing and have been active members in their program and/or college community overall.

SELECTION PROCESS: Student candidates are recommended for the above award by written nomination from either a faculty member, a community member, or a fellow student. The University  Awards Selection Committee will initiate a call for nominations.

Notice will be sent to all faculty members, posted conspicuously throughout the college, and advertised in the regional newspapers of the communities served by the college. Nominations will be received by the University Awards Selection Committee.

As part of the selection process, nominees will be required to obtain written references from two faculty members, two community members, and two fellow students. The original nomination satisfies one of the above references. Upon receipt of the nomination, the University College Awards Selection Committee will notify and advise the nominee of additional references required and of the deadline to satisfy the selection process. Interviews of nominees may be conducted by the University Awards Selection Committee as part of the selection process.

(b) DEAN’S LIST

ELIGIBILITY: Students must have satisfactorily completed a one-year or two-year program as of June 30th in the current academic year. Any student enrolled in an entry-level program and is completing his/her program in the current academic year, will be eligible to be placed on the list.

CRITERIA: Students must have completed a specific program of studies and must have an average of 90% or greater in their specific program.

(c) TRADES & TECHNOLOGY AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING  ACHIEVEMENT

ELIGIBILITY: Students must have satisfactorily completed a one-year or two-year program as of June 30th in the current academic year. Any student enrolled in an entry-level program and is completing his/her program in the academic year, will be eligible for an award.

CRITERIA: Students must have completed a specified program of studies. Where applicable, a minimum of 90% will be required. Any other criteria as specified by the program instructors.

SELECTION PROCESS: The Trades & Technology Department will select award winners from the programs in their jurisdiction. Students who have achieved both academic excellence and outstanding performance in their program will be selected for this award.

(d) SOCIETY OF VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTORS OF BC/YUKON ANNUAL BURSARY

Value: $200.00

ELIGIBILITY: The Society of Vocational Instructors of BC (SVI) will annually award one $200 bursary to a full-time student in a vocational program at each college or institute that is an institutional member of the society. The bursary money will be sent to the treasurer of the Society of Vocational Instructors who will return it to the local Society of Vocational Instructors Bursary Committee upon written request. The college or institute and the local chapter of SVI will decide what programs are vocational. As well, the college or institute and the local chapter will decide the application date and time of year the award will be made.

CRITERIA: These awards will be open to students who successfully complete a listed program in the 12 months prior to the application deadline or are currently enrolled in a listed program. Students must see their instructor to apply while they are registered in a listed program.

SELECTION PROCESS: A committee of vocational instructors will choose the recipient of the bursary as determined by the SVI. Recipients will be selected on demonstrated financial need and performance in a vocational program as determined by the bursary committee.

(e) PROCOR (BC) INC. AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

Value: Estimated $500

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student in the Welding Level C program at the University of the Fraser Valley

CRITERIA: Top grades for the year (theory and practical), attitude, work habits, completion of program in a reasonable expected time frame

SELECTION PROCESS: The Welding department will select award winners from the programs in their jurisdiction. The name of award recipients and the criteria used for selection will be forwarded to the University Awards Selection Committee.
