Join a drop-in tutoring session

Do you want to meet with a tutor but you haven't booked an appointment? No problem, we have some virtual meeting rooms set up in Blackboard Collaborate that are perfect for you.

 How do I access online drop-in tutoring?

  1. Log into myClass (Blackboard)
  2. Use the navigation menu to go to the Courses section
  3. In the search field, type ASC
  4. In the search results, under Course ID, hover over the title askASC and then click on the arrow that appears
  5. Click Enroll
  6. Click Submit
  7. Click OK. You have now successfully joined the ASC drop-in tutoring online space.
  8. Go to the Collaborate tab. You will see a list of all of our drop-in spaces and workshops.
  9. Scroll through the list of tutor rooms to find an open room, or click on the magnifying glass icon at the top of the list to search for a tutor’s name or subject area.
  10. You can enter/leave any of these drop-in sessions during the times that the rooms are open.

How does drop-in tutoring work?

  • Some of our drop-in rooms are reserved for students in specific areas or disciplines and some are for any student to use. The titles of the drop-in rooms tell you the subject area(s) and the names of the tutors.
  • Each of the drop-in rooms is scheduled to recur at the same time each week until the end of the semester. So, if you find a time that works well for you, you can count on being able to drop in at that time with that tutor every week.
  • You might see another student or two when you drop in. If all of the students are working on the same subject area, it's possible that the tutor will work with everyone as a group. If the questions you have are very different from the other students, then the tutor might choose to create a break-out room where just the two of you can meet.

Important: Tutors at the Academic Success Centre cannot provide support during or about your exams.
