Biography

Stan Manu is a new academic advisor for the Faculty of Science students for the year. He has been with the UFV Mathematics and Statistics Department since 2011. In addition to advising this year, he teaches both Math 105 and Math 111.

Stan grew up in Tonga - a small island Kingdom in the South Pacific. He first started his post-secondary education there at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji, where he completed his undergrad in maths and physics. During his study in Fiji, he went on a one-year exchange program, taking maths at the University of Idaho. He later went back again to Idaho to do his master’s degree in maths, and then later on to complete his PhD in maths education at the University of British Columbia.

In addition to his love of teaching and facilitating students’ learning, Stan’s research interests are in the areas of curriculum development, assessment, teaching and learning of mathematics, and the use of language(s) in mathematics particularly within a bilingual context. He grew up playing rugby but loves all sorts of sports. He also enjoys movies, music, gardening, and hanging out with his family.
