The UFV Library has two branches located on the Abbotsford and Chilliwack (Canada Education Park) campuses, and provides services to students, faculty and staff at all UFV campuses and online. The Technical Services unit is located in the Abbotsford Library, and supports the Library’s mission and goals through the acquisition and cataloguing/access of library materials and collections in all formats.
Duties & Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Library Technician-in-Charge, Cataloguing, the Cataloguer will perform cataloguing tasks as assigned. Responsibilities include cataloguing, classifying and providing subject analysis for library materials in multiple formats using specialized knowledge of international metadata standards and bibliographic organization. The Cataloguer will also perform derived cataloguing: researching, analysing, editing, and importing metadata into local bibliographic databases; create original catalogue records; and process library materials (e.g. printing and affixing spine labels).
A two year diploma in Library and Information Technology from a recognized institution with a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience, including recent cataloguing experience using Resource Description and Access (RDA) OR one year of post-secondary education and a minimum of three (3) years of recent cataloguing experience using RDA. Demonstrated knowledge of international cataloguing standards, authority guidelines, and current best practices. Attention to detail and accuracy. Experience with the cataloguing module of an integrated library system preferred. Experience in derived cataloguing of all formats of materials preferred. Experience with original cataloguing of all formats of materials preferred.
