The University of the Fraser Valley invites applications for a full-time faculty member in its Teacher Education Department (TED) which includes undergraduate level prerequisite courses and a post-degree Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) for prospective elementary, middle and secondary teachers. Candidates enrolled in the three semester B.Ed are divided into K-7 and 8-12 groups using a cohort model. The next intake will consist of 64 teacher candidates grouped into one elementary/middle and one secondary module beginning in September 2018. The program is located on the Abbotsford campus.

This is a position for an individual who enjoys the challenge of working in an innovative program and whose philosophy about teacher education is consistent with TED’s Mission Statement, Department Values and Program Goals. The successful candidate would have knowledge of the five department values and be able to embed the values into curriculum design and delivery. The elementary/middle and secondary program structures can be found at It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be able to teach elementary-level courses across a variety of subject areas.


The individual will be expected to teach courses in the TED, be a faculty mentor to teacher candidates during practica, work collaboratively with a variety of faculty and seconded faculty mentors, and be part of the TED candidate admissions and orientation processes. There are additional expectations involving service to the university and the local community. The successful applicant will also be expected to maintain an active research and/or scholarship agenda with a focus on teacher education and/or K – 12 education. A key responsibility of faculty in the TED is to ensure that teachers who successfully complete the UFV B.Ed meet all TED program goals, demonstrate TED department values, and are fully aware of their obligations to adhere to the British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch (BCTRB) Standards.



  1. Completed doctorate in Education or an MEd or MA with comparable education-related life experience
  2. K – 12 teaching certificate with elementary classroom experience (preferably in the public school system)
  3. Experience teaching elementary methods courses (e.g. Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Physical Education, Fine Arts, Science)
  4. Knowledge of the BC school system (preferably in local school districts)
  5. Active research interest in teacher education
  6. Evidence of experience and/or scholarship oriented toward a progressive vision of public education that is inclusive and committed to social justice, critical thinking, reflective practice and professional learning communities
  7. Evidence of strong leadership and excellent interpersonal skills.


  1. Ability to contribute to innovative program development
  2. Ability to teach courses in at least one of the following areas: Second Language Teaching and Learning, Information Technology, Indigenous Youth and Schooling, Special Education, School Governance, and Action Research.
  3. Familiarity with learning technologies, mentorship development, and/or supervision models.
