Under the general direction of the Team Lead, IT Servers, the Analyst will provide technical design, integration, testing, hardware provisioning, monitoring, system administration, backup/recovery, troubleshooting and documentation for enterprise systems and servers. This role requires the ability to collaborate with multiple users and departments on a daily basis to identify and resolve complex problems and develop solutions based on needs. This role also requires the ability to use one’s judgment to resolve issues and work independently with limited direction. The Analyst’s key responsibilities include:

 

Servers & Storage

Perform hardware provisioning, system administration, and monitoring of UFV’s servers, and backup systems including:

  • Virtual Servers
  • Windows and Linux
  • Enterprise backup systems
  • Third party systems and equipment
  • Data centre management equipment

 

Administration of Systems

Perform administration of Microsoft enterprise systems including:

  • Microsoft System Center
  • Active Directory
  • Network Drives
  • Login and other systems scripts
  • Enterprise E-Mail

 

Assessment & Recommendations

Provide technical assessments and recommendations regarding servers and related systems including:

  • Data Center, backup, and server system enhancements, related products and services
  • Testing of hardware, operating systems, and third party Data Center applications to meet UFV server standards
  • Server and system performance and usage issues

 

Collaboration

Collaborate on server and system related activities

  • Collaborate with other Infrastructure and departmental teams to meet requirements for performance and backup
  • Collaborate with other departmental staff regarding cross-functional processes, procedures, and standards
  • Assist with planning and execution of major server upgrades

 

 

Troubleshooting

Troubleshoot server and systems related issues by acting as the first contact for the IT Support Team in resolution of issues related to:

  • Virtual Servers
  • Systems Center
  • Active Directory
  • Enterprise E-mail
  • Network Drives
  • Enterprise backup systems
  • Other issues as required

 

Other Server and Systems Related Tasks

  • Perform asset tracking of servers and server related equipment
  • Prepare written technical documentation of processes, procedures and standards
  • Research emerging practices/technologies and participate in long-range planning for new servers, systems, and related methodologies
  • Perform other project related work as required

Qualifications

A recognized degree in Computer Information Systems or a related field required. Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate preferred. Minimum five (5) years’ experience providing Information Technology services for an Enterprise including 2 years’ experience implementing and administering Microsoft Windows Server, virtualization and data backup. Proven ability to troubleshoot Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems and servers. Must have basic understanding of server architecture types and characteristics. Must be detail oriented. Must be able to work well in a team environment. Must have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure. Must be self-motivated and able to work with limited guidance. Must have excellent time management and organizational skills.
