UFV invites applications for the position of Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences.


The Faculty of Health Sciences is comprised of more than one hundred tenured, tenure-track, and part-time faculty members, and offers degree, diploma, and certificate programs leading to a variety of career options.  Programs include the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Kinesiology (with options in Exercise Science and Pedagogy), Certified Dental Assistant Certificate, Health Care Assistant Certificate, and Practical Nursing Diploma.  Health Sciences programming is recognized for its strong practicum components, evidence-based curriculum, and emphasis on population health issues.  The Faculty also prioritizes the importance of ongoing collaboration with health care agencies and communities in collegial scholarship and research activities.  The commitment to community-engaged research has been strengthened by the recent addition of a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair on Health and Community.


Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, the Dean of Health Sciences is the chief academic and administrative leader of the Faculty and a member of UFV’s senior administration.  The Dean is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic and educational plans to guide the Faculty’s development and for ensuring the quality of all educational and research programs.  She or he will share UFV’s commitment to interdisciplinarity and inter-departmental and cross-Faculty collaboration, experiential learning, and the integration of research with teaching.  The Dean will collaborate externally with professional and community organizations—regionally, provincially, and nationally.


The ideal candidate will possess a PhD or terminal degree in a relevant health sciences discipline, and a strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service.  They will have a proven record of senior academic administration, preferably at the Associate Dean or Chair level, demonstrated success in fostering innovation and collegiality, and the ability to lead within an evolving organization.
