The School of Social Work and Human Services programs prepare students for social work practice reflecting principles of social justice, equality, and respect for diversity. The programs address the structural barriers that prevent people from reaching their full potential. With a commitment to lifelong learning and a critical analysis of oppression, graduates will have the knowledge, skills, and professional social work values necessary to work collaboratively with individuals, families, groups, and communities in diverse and cross-cultural environments. The programs contribute to the knowledge base of social work through partnerships and collaborative research with professional and local communities.

The School applications for a full-time, permanent faculty member to teach across all of the Social Work and Human Services programs especially generalist social work theory and clinical practice skills in its undergraduate programs and also advanced social work practice across the fields of either health care or mental health in its MSW program.

The School of Social Work and Human Services offers a MSW; a BSW (Generalist & Child Welfare Option); a Diploma in Social Services (Generalist & First Nations Option); and a Community Support Worker Certificate. The School has developed collaborative relationships with the Sto:lo peoples and all BSW students are required to take a course in Indigenous Social Work. The MSW and BSW programs are fully accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work.

The School of Social Work and Human Services is looking for a faculty member who has clinical experience in one or more of the following areas: experience in mental health and addictions, substance misuse, disabilities, equity seeking groups, Indigenous social work practice, family-centered social work, schools, mental health and addictions, disabilities, social work and gerontology. The successful applicant will possess strong communication and organizational skills with excellence in teaching and a record of scholarly activities including a developing research portfolio that contributes to the scholarship of teaching and learning, in addition to developing or extending experiential learning opportunities for students. Additional skills will include curriculum development, practicum supervision, working with a diverse student population, being a team player, and the successful applicant’s curriculum must reflect or incorporate Indigenous perspectives or ways of learning. Indigenous peoples will be given preference.

Qualifications

The successful applicant must have a MSW degree from a recognized and accredited institution, RCSW preferred, in addition to a PhD (or ABD) in Social Work from a recognized and accredited institution, together with five years successful teaching at a degree level and five years of clinical experience. Candidates with a PhD in a related discipline may be considered if they have a MSW.
