The department of Institutional Research and Planning at the University of the Fraser Valley invites applications for a Research Analyst.

Reporting to the Associate VP, Institutional Research and Planning, the Research Analyst is responsible for reporting activities, working on ad hoc projects, providing administrative support, and training co-workers.


  • Planning, designing, and creating reports that provide information and analysis for effective decision making by university administrators.
  • Assuming responsibility, as determined by the AVP, for various projects.
  • Conducting regular reporting.
  • Working with other staff to fulfil requests for data and analysis from internal and external bodies.
  • Taking an active role in the institutional research and post-secondary education communities.
  • Developing and managing complex databases required for research and reporting.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships both within and outside the university to facilitate the exchange of ideas and solicit feedback.


  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in institutional research, applied higher education research, or similar area, preferably in a university setting.
  • An ability to conduct advanced data analysis using statistical software applications.
  • Statistical, analytical, and computer programming experience, preferably with higher education data systems and higher education topics.
  • The ability to initiate, develop, and report quantitative measures that describe and evaluate academic programs and the effectiveness and efficiency of the university and its services.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and ability to successfully manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to independently complete projects on time with accuracy, thoroughness, and creativity.
  • Excellent verbal, written, numerical, and graphical communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in working collegially with others.
  • Experience manipulating, restructuring, and analyzing large, complex data sets.
  • Knowledge of key issues and concepts in higher education.
  • A commitment to accuracy and an eye for detail.
