The Dean and two Associate Deans direct the affairs of the College of Arts, which combines the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences. The College of Arts includes the following academic areas of study: Anthropology, Communications, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Global Development Studies, Graphic & Digital Design, Indigenous Studies, India-Canada Studies, History, Latin-American Studies, Media and Communications Studies, Media Arts, Migration and Citizenship, Modern Languages, Peace and Conflict Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Program Evaluation, Psychology, Sociology, Theatre, and Visual Arts.

This position provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to bring their vision and strong leadership skills to curriculum design and delivery. The Associate Dean of Students is responsible for ensuring students’ success, which includes support for high impact practices and innovative pedagogy.

Under the direction of the Dean and in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Faculty and Manager of Academic and Administrative Services, the Associate Dean of Students will assist the College of Arts in the attainment of UFV’s Strategic and Foundation Plans https://www.ufv.ca/irp/ufv-planning/. The Associate Dean of Students will take a lead role in curriculum development and quality assurance through institutional curricular approval process and program reviews. The Associate Dean will also attend to articulation and partnership agreements. He/she will work closely with Heads, Directors and Chairs, the Office of the Registrar, the Advising Centre, and Student Services. The Associate Dean of Students will be expected to provide leadership on a number of institutional committees and policy development and renewal.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a terminal professional degree (M.A. in Creative Arts or Ph.D. in Liberal Arts); a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service; a minimum of three years successful administrative and leadership experience at the post-secondary level; knowledge and practice of academic governance; excellent communication skills and experience in curriculum design and review. We welcome applications from individuals who are passionate about student success and who have a demonstrated ability to provide leadership in the delivery and assessment of post-secondary education. The successful candidate will have experience with designing and implementing outcome-based curricular design, and the ability to take a leadership role in this regard.
