Overview

The University of the Fraser Valley is embarking on a major investment in its technology landscape, with corresponding expansion, revitalization, and reinvention of its infrastructure, systems, service management protocols, and project delivery methodology.  Under the direction of the Chief Information Officer, UFV is redesigning the IT Department’s organizational structure and adding staff in both the frontline and management realms, aligning with the needs of the university.

Modern and highly functional classrooms are critical to the learning experience, and the expectations of instructors and students of these spaces are rising. Reporting to the Manager, IT Support, the Team Lead, Audio Visual supervises and leads a team responsible for ensuring the educational technology products and components in UFV's classrooms are designed, installed, maintained, and upgraded to the highest standards.

Responsibilities

The AV team is responsible for the successful operations of classroom technology, a growing demand for technology enabled meeting spaces (video conferencing), as well as an expanding network of digital displays across the university's campus sites across the Fraser Valley.

Working with the IT Services and Teaching and Learning teams, the Team Lead, Audio Visual researches, assesses, and recommends the future of classroom audio visual technology to UFV leadership. The Team Lead, AV will work closely with Facilities Management and Campus Planning staff, and contractors, to ensure UFV standards are appropriately set and followed and projects are planned and executed effectively.

The Team Lead, AV exhibits a high level of problem-solving ability, originality, creativity and resourcefulness when planning and implementing projects and solving related issues.

Qualifications

  • A recognized degree in Computer Science, or a related field is required.
  • Relevant audio-visual certifications, such as CTS, CTS-D, Extron or Biamp considered an asset.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of related audio-visual experience in large enterprises including three (3) years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Excellent working knowledge of various audio-visual systems and technologies.
  • Excellent change control practices with particular attention to detail.
  • Experience defining and writing technical recommendations and proposals.
  • Time management and organizational skills required.
  • Experience working with and leading a team.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, leadership and presentation skills.
  • Must be service oriented.
  • Knowledge of common educational media technologies such as digital projects, document cameras, Smart Boards, video-conferencing codecs, audio systems, etc.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networks and simple network device configuration.
  • Advanced knowledge of room control systems (e.g. Extron, Creston, AMX).
  • Working knowledge of PC hardware, cables, connectors and peripherals along with electrical/electronic theory.
  • Familiarity with common construction methods and the various methods used for safe mounting of audio/visual equipment.
