The Technician, Audio Visual will work as part of a team in the Information Technology Services department maintaining and upgrading educational technology products and components in its classrooms across the Fraser Valley. The Technician will be a problem-solver with analytical skills to determine and resolve issues concerning the technology in classrooms. Ability to work a flexible schedule (early mornings, some evening and weekend work) and the ability to drive to UFV campuses are a must.
Two-year diploma in electronics or electronic servicing, or equivalent experience. Minimum five (5) years’ related experience in professional audio-visual systems design and installation. Knowledge of common educational media technologies such as digital projects, document cameras, Smart Boards, video-conferencing codecs, audio systems, etc. Knowledge of TCP/IP networks and simple network device configuration. Ability to configure programmable room control systems (e.g. Extron, Creston, AMX). Extron certification/programming experience strongly preferred. Experience configuring audio/video switchers, scalers, DSPs, etc. Excellent working knowledge of PC hardware, cables, connectors and peripherals (prefer A+ certification or equivalent). Excellent knowledge of electrical/electronic theory. Excellent communication skills, listening skills. Outstanding diagnostic skills. Experience with software applications such as: Microsoft Excel/Word/Publisher/PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator. Familiarity with common construction methods (e.g. steel/wood stud, cement block, etc.) and the various methods used for safe mounting of a/v equipment. Ability to skillfully and safely use common hand and power tools including drills, saws, compressors, grinders, etc. Ability to solder and to terminate video and audio cables and connections. Ability to work on ladders to a height of 12 feet or higher. Must be able to lift 15Kg to above shoulder height.
