Job summary

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice has approximately 500 program students and offers a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice, an Honour’s program, and a Master of Arts (Criminal Justice) for criminal justice system professionals. The School is home to the Centre for Public Safety and Criminal Justice Research ( and houses a secure Crime Lab that facilitates faculty engagement in a wide range of criminal justice research opportunities. The School is committed to the collaborative development of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and university and community service. Our faculty and staff are committed to providing instructional excellence in every class and for every student, creating experiential learning and practical opportunities for students beyond the classroom, and contributing to the betterment of the University of the Fraser Valley, the communities we serve, our partners, and our discipline.

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice invites applications for three (3) full-time, tenure-track faculty positions to begin August 1, 2020. While we seek applicants who have knowledge and expertise in a wide range of criminology and criminal justice areas, successful candidates will bring areas of expertise that expand upon the current expertise offered by faculty in the School (e.g. social justice, law, corrections, qualitative research, human rights, or other specialty areas of study). The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice encourages applications from candidates who are Indigenous or members of a visible minority group.

We are seeking collegial, energetic, and innovative individuals who have a record of recent successful post-secondary teaching, and who are able to teach across our undergraduate and graduate curriculum, can effectively mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in applied research and scholarship that involves collaboration with the local community, community agencies, and/or external bodies or agencies. Successful applicants will be expected to actively and collaboratively participate in departmental and university activities, service, events, and initiatives. A commitment to an ongoing program of professional development is required. 


Successful candidates must have a PhD (candidates who are ABD will be considered) in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related field, or an equivalent designation from a related discipline (e.g., LL.M). Successful candidates must have strong theoretical, conceptual, and applied knowledge of criminology and Canadian criminal justice. As a teaching-intensive university, successful candidates will have recent evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level and possess strong communication, leadership, and service skills. The successful candidates should also have demonstrable experience in technology-supported teaching (e.g., hybrid, online), and should have an active research portfolio, preferably in an applied area of criminal justice.
