Continuing Education, a department of the Faculty of Access and Continuing Education, has been offering high-quality lifelong education options to people in the Fraser Valley since 1974, and are well known for high standards and consistent quality. Continuing Education collaborates with other UFV departments to develop certificates and short courses related to our academic specialities. The Continuing Education (CE) department is looking to build a pool of instructors to teach in the Veterinary Administrative Assistant (VAA) Certificate program. CE invites applicants to apply for various instructor roles in this program. Courses run Thursday through Saturday typically over 7 days total. Positions are part-time, short-term contracts to begin Fall 2019, and Winter & Spring 2020 to teach one or several courses in the VAA program.

Courses include:

  • Veterinary Business Fundamentals
  • Veterinary Hospital Fundamentals
  • Anatomy, Physiology, and Common Diseases
  • Veterinary Surgical Fundamentals
  • Animal Behaviour and Nutrition
  • Groomng
  • Introduction to Veterinary Pharmaceuticals
  • Animal Shelters and Animal Lab Husbandry
  • Review
  • Three-week practicum

Continuing Education instructors create a student-centred learning environment that encourages student involvement and participation. Instructors teach developed course materials to meet learning outcomes and incorporate their expertise, real life examples, and effective teaching strategies into the courses and materials. CE instructors also document student’s attendance, participation, progress, as well grade assignments and assessments that lead to a final grade. Instructors are required to receive satisfied student evaluations.


Desired qualifications include:

  • Recognized education in the veterinary field (certificate, diploma, degree, Masters, Doctorate).
  • Three to five years of current veterinary experience.
  • Experience training, teaching, and presenting.
  • Experience working in a service role that includes communicating and cooperating with diverse populations.
  • Instructor training is preferred.
  • Instructor experience is preferred.
